Kiefer GPR Study – Methodology

The methodology applied for Kiefer's work is described in the following steps:

  • Study-evaluation of plans, topographic diagrams and satellite images.
  • Planning of field work.
  • Drawing and marking of the intersection points.
  • Measurements using the GPR method
  • Processing and Interpretation of primary data.
  • Preparation of Final Drawings, Maps and Technical Report.

MOBACT Activities Expansion: Geophysical Surveys

MOBACT is expanding its scope of activity by introducing geophysical survey services that support the optimization of construction projects. With modern technologies and a specialized team, our company aims to provide accurate data to support infrastructure development.

High Specialization and Innovation

MOBACT's team of geophysicists includes experts with extensive experience in the field. Among them are PhDs in Mining Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, who utilize their expertise in combination with advanced methods, such as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), to provide quality results.

The Role of GPR Technology in Construction Projects

GPR technology is an essential tool for infrastructure projects. It provides the ability to non-destructively investigate the subsoil, providing data on the existence of pipes, cables, and other infrastructure. This avoids damage and unforeseen delays, while facilitating the accurate design and execution of projects.

GPR data helps save time and resources, enhancing the sustainability of construction processes. The ability to create georeferenced maps provides engineers with critical information for optimal design.

Recent Project: Infrastructure Investigation at Athens Airport

MOBACT recently undertook a geophysical survey on behalf of Kieffer Tek, aiming to map underground networks in the area of the Municipality of Spata. The project focused on identifying:

  • Utility networks, such as water and gas pipelines.
  • Medium and high voltage currents.
  • Fiber optics and other infrastructure.

The study was designed to ensure the smooth execution of excavations and the avoidance of damage to existing networks.

Project Methodology

The Kiefer Study project was carried out in two phases:

  1. Design and Data Acquisition
    • Use of ground penetrating radar (GPR) to collect information from the subsurface.
    • Creation of a measurement grid, ensuring accurate locations within two days.
  2. Processing and Presentation of Results
    • Use of GPS RTK for accurate georeferencing of findings.
    • Creation of georeferenced maps for complete mapping of infrastructure.

The team also carried out on-site marking of critical points to facilitate the work of the engineers.

A few words about the Kiefer

We have been active in the field since 2014, having constructed projects of all technologies with a total capacity of over 600 MW to date. For the years 2021-2024, we have concluded contracts for constructions of a total capacity of 1 GW, in all RES technologies, while at the same time we are proceeding with the development of 1 GW storage stations throughout the Greek territory. Covering the entire spectrum of activities in the RES sector, having the ability to operate in the Cumulative Representation Body with a 200 MW capacity license, while we have already ensured the excellent specialization and training of the staff for the smooth operation of the FOSE.
